Scott Rockfeld was kind enough to talk to me today about the many benefits of using Microsoft Office OneNote 2003. He's a Group Program Manager in the Office division of Microsoft and is extremely passionate about capturing all sorts of notes and unstructured data using our latest version of OneNote.
Scott talked about how OneNote can enable collaboration in meetings, increase productivity by capturing audio/video and synchronizing notes to multimedia, recognize handwriting, and make all of this searchable. He mentioned a number of customers including Cap Gemini and Brigam Young University Law School.
Personally, I use OneNote to store all my notes from meetings or concalls, giving me one place to go if I need to find some tidbit of information. It took me a while to force myself to not use Word or Notepad (old habits die hard), but now I could never go back to my old methods. I've even learned how to use OneNote to track all my to-do's and accomplishments using flags. This has enabled me to automate my monthly status reports and quarterly reviews. I couldn't live without OneNote!
